*Today’s featured author is Ann Drews. She has published three Willow Tree books through Pen It! Publications and is currently working on more titles.
How old were you when you knew you wanted to be a writer?
This is an interesting question, really. I have always written poems; as early as I can remember, I was writing poems. I still have a lot of them. I don’t know if I ever dreamed of being a published author until I started my journey with Jesus. He makes the desires of your heart come to life, so to say. That would have been around 2005.
Who are your favorite authors? (limit answer to five)
Maya Angelou is my favorite author. I value and appreciate the passion she put into her works. My favorite writing of hers is Phenomenal Woman.
What are your greatest sources of inspiration?
My Savior, Jesus Christ, and my children are my inspiration. He is so faithful to love me through it all. I was also blessed with some amazing children, and many others around me, to keep me going and encourage me.
What genre(s) do you write?
I have started out in the published world with Christian children’s books. I hope to add books in the adult Christian area, cookbooks and novels. I also have plans for a young adult series, much further down the road.
Do you have any current or future projects?
I cannot thank those at PenIt! enough for their patience with me—understanding and amazing consideration. Debi has been a joy to work with. She lets me ramble on about ideas that I have, and has phenomenal suggestions and ideas in return. I have a cute holiday children’s book that is about to be illustrated at PenIt! I will have more Willow Tree books coming out, as I have five waiting on my illustrator in that series. PenIt! is working on the illustrations for the first in The Rodeo Series about a rodeo clown. A percentage of that series will be donated in the rodeo communities. I also will soon be sending the signed contract to PenIt! on the Animal Shelter Series. Each book will be about an adopted shelter animal with details from the family that adopted them. A percentage of the income from those books will go back to individual shelters the animals were adopted from. I have just over half of my first novel written, and it takes place in the late 1800s. I am thinking it will be the first of seven. I am also working on a few devotionals, and a cookbook.
Do you have any blogs?
I am not really that tech smart as they say. I just adopted a dog at an animal shelter, and created a page for him on Facebook. He is where I got the idea for the shelter series mentioned above. That page is called, Life with Tank, and that will also be the name of the first book in the shelter series. I also have an author page on Facebook: Author Ann Drews.
Where can people find your work to purchase or read?
If you could feature just one title, what would it be?
If I could only feature one title, it would be my very first published children’s book, Under the Willow Tree. My way to explain it is it is my life journey in a few pages. Everyone has their challenges and trials in life to overcome, however, in Christ, we are overcomers! In that overcoming, we find who we are really meant to be, for Him, in Him, for the work of the Kingdom. That is amazing freedom!
Do you have any other hobbies besides writing?
If you would ask those around me this question about me, they would say kids, kids, kids and church, church, church. I love to dabble in photography once in a while. My family and I volunteer quite a bit in the community. I am contemplating picking up some painting skills, as I might be painting come covers for the novel series.
Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I have been an Ordained Deacon in my church family since November 2011. It has been an amazing journey with Christ. I could not have withstood without the blessings of those He sent to walk the path with me. I do not have enough room to list them all. My cup runneth over and over!
Is there anything else you would like to share?
If you are an inspiring author, just starting out or even in the middle of your path, know that you are not alone. There are so many great stories waiting to be told, and so many things that hold people back from sharing their hearts. If you need some encouragement, or help, or someone to read your work, please find me on my Facebook page. I didn’t get where I am figuring it all out by myself. Happy writing and reading!
